I’m back.

The Blog is back. Welcome to new followers. Hello again to those of you who followed the Old Blog. While I regret leaving the old url, this new format should allow me to post with greater ease and frequency. Posting is the point after all. My posts will have no specific or generalized direction. I write for a living, and those words are often coiffed and managed by others. Due to that, this blog will serve as a space for me to write to my heart’s content. My creative playground. Unfettered writing tends to keep me passionate. Reminds me why I love to write in the first place.

Consider athletics. I played on a few organized teams in my younger days. More often than not, I hated practices. We never played. Drills, drills, drills. Fun, drills are not. The monotony and inability to play freely which infiltrated every practice sucked the joy out of the games I loved to play. Even during games, the control and discipline required limited the actual joy of playing. Winning became the main goal. You played to win to the game.

Throw me into an open gym, however, and nothing is purer. Playing the game simply to play. No rules. No coaches. No playbook. Sure it can be sloppy, filled with careless turnovers, mistakes and a bevy of six-foot-nothing white guys attempting to prove gravity wrong. But for me at least, at those moments, I remembered why I loved to play in the first place. It renewed my passion for the game, and with that passion I was able to grow as a player when the organized time returned.

So, in many ways, I consider this blog my pick up game.

I also write for you. Suffice it to say, people write, perform, play in a public space so that someone(s) can enjoy it. Might not always admit it, but really, why go through all the trouble of posting or performing something in public if you don’t deep down want others to see it. So, with that in mind, if something written or posted here catches your attention, causes you to think, or causes you to question whether or not my IQ approaches triple digits, well, drop me a line or post your comments with your thoughts. After all, a pickup game is always more fun when everyone shows up.

Thanks – and check back soon. — m
